10 Things You Should Experience in this Lifetime
Life is too short to live it so mundanely. Seek out a richer more fulfilling life by experiencing at least one of these 10 things you should experience in this lifetime.
You only live once
There comes a point in our lives when we feel like life is slipping through our fingers. This feeling often blankets us when we are nearing a milestone such as a decade birthday. Whether we are turning 30, 40 or 50, we tend to feel overwhelmed about the things we still have not seen, experienced or accomplished instead of looking forward to the many things that are still out there for us to explore.
The travel bucket list
More often that not, people find themselves making a bucket list of the things they wish to experience when faced with this kind of “battle with time”, so to speak. If you find yourself with the urge to do the same thing, but do not know where to start, here are 10 awesome things that the world has to offer to kick off your list:
- Ride the Trans-Siberian Express – For the record, there is no such train as “Trans-Siberian Express”. There is, however, the Trans-Siberian Railway, which is the longest railway in the world. En route, travelers passes through the cities of Perm, Omsk, Irkutsk and Chita, to name some. The best times to go on a Trans-Siberian expedition are early fall or late spring, when the weather is not too cold nor too hot.
- Witness the Rom Dance in Ambrym Island, Vanuatu – The Rom Dance is quite a spectacle performed by carefully chosen men. Mystique surrounds the tedious process to become a Rom dancer where the prospect is supposed to learn how to make the mask as well as the specific steps of the dance. In addition, the Ambrym Island houses two active, and picturesque, volcanoes: Mt. Marum and Mt. Benbow.
- Swim with the Whale Sharks – Many divers say that the deep is one of the most tranquil places in the world. To be surrounded by the colorful and variant marine life is a gift. In Donsol, Philippines, you are offered to experience one of the most amazing things anyone ever could underwater: to swim with the whale sharks, locally called the butanding. These marine giants are said to frequent Donsol because of its plankton-rich waters as well as to give birth to their young. Because of that, Donsol is now internationally recognized as the whale shark capital of the world.
- Ride Route 66 – If an all-American motorcycle road trip is what you are looking for, then there is no better road to traverse than the historic Route 66. Extending from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California, Route 66 crossed much of the Midwest, Great Plains and the Southwest. The things you will find along the way will surprise you!
- Sunbathe topless (where it is allowed) in a European beach – Women tend to be very insecure of their bodies as they grow older. That is why it comes off as no surprise to hear that many of them have this in their bucket lists. Perhaps, it is the idea of once having the guts to bear their breasts for the sun to kiss puts them in the company of supermodels and gorgeous actresses.
- Explore the Mayan Ruins – The journey to the Mayan city is quite long and boring, but gratification is instant once you get there. Within the city lies several temples such as the Temple of Kukulkan and the Temple of the Warriors, a group of ancient columns, and the Sacred Cenote, among many other things.
- See the Cherry Blossoms Bloom– Japan is known for so many things; among them are the lovely cherry blossoms. It is a phenomenon that is celebrated in the country and is often frequented by tourists. Japan has plenty of well-maintained gardens that showcase the blooming cherry blossoms. If you are unable to fly to Asia to witness this beautiful natural wonder, perhaps a trip to Washington, D.C. will do.
- Be in the Embrace of Rio’s Monument – Whatever your religious affiliation is, you are definitely going to feel the warmth to be in Christ the Redeemer statue’s embrace. Standing some 130 feet high, this statue is significantly different from the usual statues of Jesus Christ. Instead of looking up to the heavens, this Jesus Christ is looking down to the city of Rio with His arms outstretched to the people.
- Go on a Felucca Down the Nile – Nile cruises are extremely popular in Egypt among residents and visitors alike. Taking a felucca (or sail boat) down the Nile River are best experienced when the sun sets. It may not be as grand as the luxury cruise ships, but nothing beats the privacy a felucca can offer.
- Worship in India – Inspired by the book-turned-movie, Eat, Pray, Love, India is definitely one of the best places in the world to do some soul-searching. As the author, Liz Gilbert, insinuated, it does not matter what god you worship. Your removal from the fast-paced routine-functioned world will do wonders to your soul.
There are more than just a handful amazing experiences out there that this beautiful world can take us by surprise. When it comes to making a bucket list, let your imagination go wild!
