Before summer comes to an end, why not take the family on one last epic adventure? A getaway somewhere comfortable and chic, yet bursting at the seams with once-in-a-lifetime travel opportunities?

These six breathtakingly beautiful boutique hotels are located in some of our favorite destinations around the globe. And they’re guaranteed to be just as uniquely wonderful as the destinations where you will find them.

Norway is often considered to be a winter destination, but the country is equally stunning during the summer months. The long days and pleasant weather make it particularly ideal for wellness travel and animal safaris.

The Herangtunet

Start your Norwegian journey near the wondrous Heggefjord and rugged Jotunheimen National Park. Here your family will have opportunities to hike in Norway’s highest mountain range, fish, kayak, horseback ride and more. While you’re exploring, keep your eyes peeled for fox, lynx, reindeer and even wolverines!

For your accommodation, it doesn’t get any better than the magnificent Harangtunet estate. This intimate, full-service luxury hotel is surrounded by trees and lakes, promising a serene escape. The product of an interior designer and graphic designer, the Harangtunet Boutique Hotel goes above and beyond in its attention to detail and the uniquely luxurious experience it offers in one of Norway’s most beautiful settings.

Hotel Union Øye

Of course, no visit to Norway is complete without a visit to the Geirangerfjord. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is regularly considered to be one of Norway’s most mesmerizing landscapes. A fjord safari by boat is one of the best ways to take in the magnificence of the scenery and the fjord’s world-renowned waterfall vistas.

While you’re there, stay at the ultra-luxurious Hotel Union Øye. This enchanting small hotel has been in operation since 1891 and claims that “it has been a favorite venue of royalties, writers and lovers for generations.” Hotel Union Øye still oozes with old-world charm and, royalty or not, you’re bound to leave feeling like a queen or king.

Andros, Bahamas

The Bahamas are a classic end-of-summer destination—just one trip to unspoiled Andros Island and it’s easy to see why! One of the largest islands in the Bahamas, your family will not have to worry about running out of thrilling activities while you are here soaking in the sun. A few of our favorites include:

The Tiamo Resort

Few places are as intimately luxurious as The Tiamo Resort. The only way to visit this magnificent island hideaway is via boat or seaplane, promising a true escape. Once you arrive at Tiamo, your family can indulge in mouth-watering cuisine, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, or simply while away the day on the island’s white sandy beaches. The five-star accommodation and service will ensure you leave with a one-of-a-kind island experience to long remember.

Kamalame Cay

If your idea of the perfect vacation consists of cerulean blue water, swaying palms and total solitude on an island oasis, then Kamalame Cay is exactly what you’re seeking. This award-winning resort and spa is located on a 100-acre private island, which means you’re unlikely to run into throngs of other tourists while you are boating, taking a wildlife safari or enjoying any of the other numerous on-site excursions. And with amenities like bicycles, golf carts, and babysitting service, you will have plenty of ways to explore the best that Andros Island has to offer.

South Africa Garden Route

South Africa is a country of many marvels, but its Garden Route—easily accessible from Cape Town—is perhaps one of its most thrilling offerings. With jaw-dropping ocean views on one side and lush, green mountains on the other, you will want to schedule extra time to take in all the route has to offer. While you are there, do not miss a stay at:

La Plume Guest House

Nestled in the picturesque Olifantsrivier Valley, a stay at La Plume Guest House offers visitors an opportunity to soak in the magic of the Garden Route from a luxurious Victorian homestead dating back to 1902. The manicured lawns and glistening pool provide an opulent space to relax while the working ostrich farm is sure to delight children—and adults—of all ages. You will have a perfect base here for bird watching, cycling and wine tasting. Finally, do not miss the opportunity for a family hot air balloon ride!

Hog Hollow Country Lodge

If your family is after an adrenaline rush, then do not miss a stay at Hog Hollow Country Lodge, which overlooks the stunning Matjies River Gorge. From this boutique hotel, you will find countless opportunities for active travel. Go on a whale and dolphin safari. Visit the wildcats at the Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary. Brave the highest bungy jump in the world. Or explore one of the 50 charted walks in the area. Then after a thrilling day of exploring, return to Hog Hollow Country Lodge to relax in your private family villa with sweeping views of the Tsitsikamma Mountains before a delectable dinner is served.

These six luxury boutique hotels each make the perfect compliment to any end of summer getaway. 1. Oh how I agree. Where you lay your head at night can make or break a getaway. Well, unless you are on a backroads trip, of course. :-) You can find boutique lodging anywhere globally. Even places close by you wherever you are located.

    1. We are holding on by a thread to summer. Thank heavens Labor Day is later in the year to give us one last change to getaway before getting into the full swing of the school year without a break til November.

  1. I haven’t thought of visiting these countries since they are too far away from Asia. In any case, there’s nothing wrong to dream. Having this list of destinations to stay at can be very inspiring for the wanderlust. I like staying in wonderful resorts that somehow make me forget about home.

  2. If only I was planning a summer getaway to some place exotic. I mean, I think Norway seems pretty wild and would love to go one day. My husband and I recently moved from Canada to California, and I think this place is freakin’ fantastic. Have you ever heard of a place called, Carmel California? It’s unbelievably gorgeous and I honestly think it should be on your list lol….it has to be up there with a few of my favourite places in the world. Jeeze, that’s sayin’ something! :)

    1. Yes, I’ve been to Carmel, CA actually. It is high up on the wellness arena within the USA. The entire Monterrey area pretty much. How lovely of a move from Canada to California. Now you have two beautiful places to call home.
