Unusual Holidays: Walking Historic Routes
Most walking historic routes were built and traversed for the purpose of trade or pilgrimage. The Silk Route is a famous example of an ancient trade route that can still be followed over mountain and across valley today. The Camino de Santiago (or The Way of Saint James) is a famous European pilgrimage route that leads to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain where it is said that the remains of St. James are buried. You don’t have to be particularly interested in history or spirituality to enjoy these routes as both are packed with draw dropping views and cover some of the most stunning landscapes in the world. The great thing about walking tours like this is that you can choose to do as much or as little of the route as you want depending on your skill level and experience.
